Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek (born in Kemaman, Terengganu on 10 December 1958) is a Malaysian legislator. He is the former Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry in the Barisan Nasional alliance government, where he sat in Parliament as the member for Kemaman, Terengganu. He represented the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and was appointed for the Supreme Council of UMNO in 2009.
During his formative years, Datuk Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek received his education at Sekolah Sungai Lembing and Sekolah Datuk Abdul Razak in Seremban. In 1983, he pursued a course in economics at Universiti Malaya (UM). Throughout this period, he was elected to lead the UM Muslim Students Association (PMIUM).
In 1986, he obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Leeds, followed by a postgraduate diploma in International Relations from Uppsala University in Sweden in 1989. That very same year, he became the Secretary of the Malaysian Social Science Association (PSSM).
Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek became a lecturer at the University Malaya’s Faculty of Economics and Administration in 1990. He has also served as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore.
